The 2016-17 Hostos women's basketball team is having a record-breaking season, capturing their 23rd consecutive win and 27th win overall. This is the first time in program history that the Caimans have earned the #1 seed in Region XV, beating the Sullivan Generals on February 23rd in double overtime to earn the spot.
The Caimans are also receiving national recognition for their tenacious play, having been nationally ranked #10 for three weeks before advancing to the #9 spot for the pass two weeks. Due to their continued success, the Caimans finally broke through this week and moved up 3 slots and are currently ranked #6 in the country.

Krishna Dass states "we are so proud of what these student-athletes are able to accomplish on and off the basketball court. They have elevated the program to new heights and I commend them for all their hard work and accomplishments".

Destini Green. For her efforts, Destini won CUNYAC and Region XV "Player of the Year" and advances to the NJCAA as an "All-American" candidate. Coach Winston states "Destini's basketball IQ is so high and she does an exceptional job of getting her teammates involved in the offense".
Freshman guard #3
Cashmir Fulcher is also having an outstanding season, earning CUNYAC "Rookie of the Year", CUNYAC Tournament "Most Valuable Player" and Region XV "Second Team". Coach Winston states "Cashmir is an impact player and commands significant attention from the opposing team. This opens up our offense and allows everyone to get involved on both ends of the court".
Overall, every player have embraced their roles on the team and are playing at a very high level. This is a testament to the coaching staff and their ability to successfully manage the team. The coaching staff were also recognized as well, as Head Coach
DeVernie Winston earned both CUNYAC and Region XV "Coach of the Year" honors.
"While these individual honors are certainly warranted, the overall team should share in these accomplishments. The team is clicking on all cylinders and it is exciting to watch them maneuver on the court" says Dass.
