Box Score 2 The Hostos Community College Men's and Women's Basketball Teams defeated Rockland Community College in the season-opening double-header games on Tuesday evening. The Caimans were on fire offensively, with the men's team beating the Hawks 96-77 and the women's team claiming an 83-35 victory.
In the women's game, Freshman
Cashmir Fulcher led the way in scoring with 14 points, 3 assists and 2 steals off the bench. Sophomore guard
Destini Green contributed 12 points and 8 rebounds and
Alexis Ruiz poured in 10 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. The Caimans had five players in double figures, including returning sophomore guards
Imani Bayne with 11 points and
Corina Coles with 10 points.
Leading the way for the men were freshman
Shelby Rose with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Johnathan Loria with 15 points and
Malvin Nieves with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Returning guard
Jemal Smith rounded out a stellar team effort with a double-double, scoring 13 points and dishing out 11 assists.
The Caimans returns to action with a double-header match-up on Thursday, November 3 against Sullivan Community College. The women's game will start at 6pm, followed by the men's game at 8pm.
