Caimans Band Together

MBB Ends the Semester with 4 Game win streak

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Bronx, NY -
After a sluggish start the Caimans seem to have gotten it together and are running off victories. The first victory coming with a 71-66W at Laguardia Community College. Next came the rivalry game with BMCC that resulted in a 98-86 victory. Unlike last year's team in which the Caimans went 0-3 during the regular season, the Caimans struck first and this help gain confidence for the Caimans. Up next for the Caimans were the Queensborough Tigers which resulted in an 87-82 victory. The last game of the semester and win for the Caimans came from Dutchess County Community College with a 66-60 victory.
In the game with Queensborough, it seemed as though the hard fought but convincing victory versus BMCC had the reverse effect for the Caimans. They didn't come out with the usual energy we've seen the Caimans come out with. As a result coach Marquee Poole tried different line ups to see who will bring the energy. After calming his team down and letting them know the urgency of this game, the Caimans got it together. It proved to be an unexpected good game with key contributions from Jemal Smith with a team high 19p 8a & 5 steals and Dequawne Richards 14p 4r 3 steals. The big spark for the Caimans came from the all-around play of Moses Denis off the bench with 13p 9r 3a 3b and 1 steal.
When the Caimans faced Dutchess this past Saturday, they faced a team that was hungry for a win. The Falcons played with tenacity and hustled after every loose ball. At the half the Caimans saw the score tied 28 apiece. Without their starting point guard Jemal Smith, the Caimans received a boost from Shane Neal with 8points and 3a with 6 of his 8 points coming from behind the arc. The sharp shooting of David Ivanov was an x-factor, connecting on 4/5 three pointers, Ivanov ended the game with 18 points and an empathic block. Jefferson Francois returned to old form with yet another double double (his 9th) on the season with 16p and 11r on only 8 shots. The efficiency of Ivanov & Francois helped propel the Caimans to the victory.
With those victories, the Caimans now sit atop CUNYAC with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hands of the Kingsborough Wave 92-95 in an OT thriller. Your Caimans will next be in action at home Tuesday, January 5th at 8PM vs the Globe Knights.
