Box Score Bronx, NY -
The finale of the Battle of the Bronx doubleheader was about to be on it's way. In a nearly filled gym the crowd couldn't keep quiet for the first of the two scheduled meetings. The Broncos came into The Swamp hoping to extend that win streak to five games, while the Caimans needed this victory because of a slow start to the season. Tonight saw the first start of
Dequawne Richards and substantial minutes since going down with an injury in the preseason. He energized the Caimans with 3-3 shooting for 7 points and a couple steals but saw limited minutes because of foul trouble.
The Caimans would go down by as much as 10 points in the first half but battled back and went into halftime up 48-43. Despite the Broncos shooting double the free throws (25-38) of the Caimans (8-19), and making three times as many, the Caimans kept on seeing the lead increase. The defense of the Caimans seemed to be the catalyst as it led to easy offense, scoring 27 points off of the 22 forced turnovers. And the presence in the paint seemed to be too much for the Broncos to bare. With a double double from two Caimans
Jefferson Francois 12 points and 10 rebounds (his 6th of the season), and
Moses Denis 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Moses Denis was the leading scorer for the game all while coming off the bench with 11-15 shooting and an electrifying dunk in the first half.
Jemal Smith also contributed with 22 points 6 assists and 3 steals. The Caimans would win the first battle of the Bronx 88-77 and gave the Broncos their first loss of the season.
The Caimans will next be in action Thursday, November 19
th versus the Kingsborough Wave at 8PM.
