Bronx, NY – The Men's Basketball team,
newly ranked number 7 in the Nation, hosted the Kingsborough Community College Wave Tuesday night in a game that provided big rewards for the Caimans. The 100-59 win over the Wave gave the Caimans their 20
th win of the season, making them 20-2 overall, 15-1 in Region XV and 7-0 in CUNYAC. The win also clinched the number 1 seed in the CUNYAC Tournament, ensuring they will play Feb. 17
th at 6:00 PM against either Queensborough CC or Kingsborough CC, and ensured at least a number 3 seed in the Region XV Tournament.
The game started on a layup by
Tyree White giving the Caimans a lead in which they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Once again stellar defense by Hostos kept their opponent to just 19 points in the first half (second straight game).
Tyler Washington had 8 points and
Chris Van Buren and
Jeremiah Brown each put up 7 points to lead the Caimans into halftime up 42-19.
The second half was much of the same for the Caimans with all 13 players on the Hostos roster seeing playing time, they continued to dominate. Using a 9-2 run to start the half they increase the lead to 30 points and never looked back.
Tyree White, once again, led the Caimans shooting 78% from the field, demonstrating why he is ranked 4
th in the country for FG%, putting up 17 points and dishing out 4 assists. Van Buren ended the game with 11 points,
Khalid Yousef and
Jeremiah Brown 9 points and
Chad Coachman,
Maverick Hodge, Belle Henderson and
Tyler Washington all contributed 8 points in the game helping the Caimans cruse to victory.
With the number 1 seed clenched in the CUNYAC Tournament Hostos looks forward to Thursday February 7
th when they will fight for the top seed in Region XV as they host #4 Sullivan County CC. In their first match up, the first game on of the season for the Caimans, on November 8
th, Hostos lost in heartbreaking fashion 55-53. This time the Caimans hope to even the score on their own turf! Come out and support the Caimans 8:00 PM in The Swamp!! Let's Go Caimans!
