Garden City, NY -- Regionally ranked #1 Nassau Community College came to play and proved why they earned the top seed. They defeated the Lady Caimans, 84-36, who entered the Region XV playoffs for the first time in four years as the #8 seed. Nassau will move onto the Region XV Tournament semifinals in New Rochelle, NY on Friday, March 2nd.
The game started with intense defense, and Nassau capitalized off Hostos turnovers early in the first half. Before the Lady Caimans could get into a groove, it was too late as the Lions built on a comfortable halftime lead and began to run away with the game.
Sophomore
Jackline Awosika led Hostos with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 block.
Despite the loss, Hostos Women's Basketball set the bar for next season after tripling the win total from 2010-2011. They hope to build on the foundation of hard work instilled by first year Head Coach
Jessica Vilella who won the CUNY Athletics Conference Coach of the Year award.
