In a rematch of last year's CUNY Athletics Conference Semifinal game in which Kingsborough came out with a narrow margin over Hostos, the Lady Caimans were looking for a different scenario for the Championship game on Friday as they watched the #4 seed Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) dethrone host and four straight CUNYAC Champion #1 seed Queensborough Community College in the prior game. Hostos came out with heart, played hard, and came within five points after being down 17 early in the second half but could not get closer in the last four minutes of the game as Kingsborough pulled out the 68-57 win to advance.
The Wave came out shooting and controlled the boards as Latoya Kinloch led the way at the half with 9 points (4-for-7) and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Samantha Mansour led the way with 19 total points for Kingsborough.
The one-two punch of forward Kristina Shcherban and sophomore Jackline Awosika both contributed 18 points for Hostos. Shcherban shot 46% from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line (leads Region 15 in FT %). Awosika added 12 rebounds (leads Region 15 in rebounds per game) and 5 assists. Off the bench, Tamesha Briggs was huge for the Lady Caimans with 7 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds.
