Bronx, NY - The Hostos Men's Basketball team embarked upon its fifth road game in the last six games and came running out of Kingsborough Community College with an 85-50 road victory Thursday night versus the Wave. The Caimans, who are now 5-1, entered the CUNYAC Conference game and NJCAA Region 15 contest versus Kingsborough looking to pick up their 5
th straight victory. The Caimans did just that!
They came right out of the gate with 3 point shots by
Jeremiah Brown and
Corey Staley versus a Kingsborough zone giving the Caimans an early 6-2 lead. The Wave scored a quick bucket but found themselves down 10-2 a few minutes later. As the half progressed the Caimans opened up a 17 point lead at 36-19. Nine of fourteen Caimans scored in the first half and the Caimans went into halftime with a 44-20 lead. For the first half, Staley had 11 points,
Chad Coachman 7 points, and
Maverick Hodge had 6 points.
The second half was much the same for the Caimans as they outscored Kingsborough 41-30 en route to victory. Staley and Coachman both ended the game with 15 points while Hodge added 14 and
D'Angelo Briscoe stepped onto the court and racked up 7 rebounds and 6 points.
Henderson Belle gave the Caimans 7 points and
Tyree White played strong to help Hostos control the game. The Wave made a few short runs but never got closer than 17.
With the win, the Caimans road trip continues on Saturday when the Caimans face Bronx Community College in the first Battle of the Bronx at 3:00 PM. Hostos and Bronx CC had quite the intense rivalry last season but unfortunately Bronx CC took the best of Hostos each time. Now Hostos seeks to return the favor and keep the win streak intact!
