In an epic basketball battle between Hostos and Bronx Community College (BCC), both schools split as the Lady Caimans beat the Lady Broncos, 71-19, and Bronx nudged Hostos, 67-56, in Men's Basketball CUNY Athletics Conference action between the top two teams. BronxNet and the CUNY Athletics Conference were present to cover the doubleheader.
Tip-off started with the women's basketball game, and Hostos jumped out to an early double-digit lead thanks to defensive stops en route to BCC turnovers. Freshman forward
Kristina Shcherban finished with 27 points (13-22 field goals), 5 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Guard Jackie Awosika scored 24 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and 11 assists for the Lady Caimans' first triple-double of the season.
In men's hoops, the Caimans battled a first place Bronx team in the CUNY Athletics Conference. By halftime, Sophomore
Brandon Stolz led all scorers with 12 points (3-7 FGs and 6-7 FTs) and 3 steals on the defensive end as intensity began to increase with a 28-24 Bronx advantage.

Sonny Kadisha brought the Caimans within two at the 8:35 mark in the 2nd half. After a Broncos missed three-pointer, Jackson grabbed another defensive board. Three plays later, the Caimans tied the game at 42 but would not get closer the rest of the way as the Broncos sealed the victory shooting 16-of-21 from the free throw line. Chris Davis scored 15 points for BCC, and Matthew Thomas added 14 points.
Bronx-native Stolz finished with 23 points (6-15 FGs and 10-11 FTs), 11 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Caimans. They continue their season with a Hostos away doubleheader at Cumberland County CC in New Jersey on Saturday, January 14th.
