Hostos Women's Basketball is making strides with a 59-30 win against Dutchess County Community College last night to improve to 8-4 overall - its best record since 2006-2007 when the Lady Caimans started the season 6-3.
Hostos started the game on an early 9-0 run and never looked back as guard Jackie Awosika lead the charge with 7 points and 5 rebounds. First half frustrations continued for Dutchess as Hostos forced 21 first half turnovers and held the Lady Falcons to 8% shooting on 2-for-25 shooting (1-8 Three Point FGs) en route to a 37-5 halftime advantage.
The second half started differently as Dutchess came out strong on the boards and began to shoot more effectively from the field. Nicole Battistoni lead the Lady Falcons with 16 points, and Dominique Douglas grabbed 11 rebounds. Despite the second half push from Dutchess, Hostos was relentless in its defensive efforts and finished with 20 total steals.
Jackie Awosika lead the charge with 27 total points (11-30 FG, 2-4 Three-Point FG), 15 rebounds (10 offensive), and 5 steals. Forward
Kristina Shcherban added 19 points (9-19 FG), 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Guard
Johnasia Turner contributed 6 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals to add to the mix.
