The first game of the 2012 season marked the first game of the season for three Lady Caimans - Jackie Awosika, Margaret Martinez, and Deoshore Webster. With the score tight early in the game thanks to patient offense and pesky defense, the Lady Caimans were tied at 10 with the Rockland Hawks on the road in Suffern, New York. Surely enough, Rockland jumped out to a 27-15 lead thanks to good shooting from the outside (42% from the field and 60% from 3-point land) and never looked back en route to a 75-49 win over Hostos.

Hostos got into foul trouble in the first half, which did not help transition from an 11-point deficit at halftime. Rockland finished the game with 10 three-pointers and took advantage of the margin and home crowd advantage.

Kristina Shcherban fueled a 15 point second-half and finished with 21 points (9-11 free throws) and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Caimans. Sophomores Yuly Rodriguez and Stephanie Arguello both grabbed 7 rebounds, and first year players Jackie Awosika and Deoshore Webster scored their first points of the season. 

The Lady Caimans (7-4) are home at the Swamp on Thursday, January 5th against Dutchess Community College at 5:00pm in a doubleheader.
