The Hostos Caimans (11-4) secured an NJCAA Region 15 road victory last night against Rockland Community College by a final score of 95-63. The Caimans took the first lead of the night with a basket to begin the contest. Rockland fought back and answered with back-back baskets of their own to give them a 4-2 margin. That would be the last lead of the night for Rockland as Hostos came right back and answered by shooting a whopping 67% in the first half from the field and 80% from the free throw line to recapture the lead and never looked back by taking a 50-26 lead into the locker room for halftime. Hostos was led by
Charles Jackson with 17 points,
Brandon Stolz with 12 points, and
Gary Anderson with 11 to round out the first half scoring for Hostos.
Much remained the same for Hostos in the second half. Rockland was never able to cut the deficit as the Hostos lead was never below 20 points for the half.
Sonny Kadisha came off the bench to help the Caimans with 8 points and 3 offensive rebounds. Jackson continued the strong effort and finished with 24 points on 10-13 shooting. Stolz finished the game with a stellar 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals for the evening.
Maverick Hodge topped off the scoring leaders with 10 points and also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists for the game. Rockland was led by Jacin Vera with 18 points.
