In CUNY Athletics Conference play, it's anybody's ball game at any time in any place! The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) held a six-point lead and time was winding down before the half, but Hostos did not give up! Point Guard Jackie Awosika hit a jumper and then assisted
Kristina Shcherban who hit a half-court shot at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 22-21 in favor of BMCC at halftime.
The game shifted in the second half with 8 lead changes and high intensity defense from both teams. With about 2 minutes remaining, the Lady Panthers held a 40-38 lead before things got intense. After two missed opportunities by Hostos, BMCC regained the ball and was fouled. Gabrielle Alleyne made one of two free throws to push the lead to three for the Lady Panthers. After a missed jumper by Hostos, Jackie Awosika went up strong and was fouled. Awosika hit the back end of her free throws. The score was BMCC 41, Hostos 39 with under 5 seconds to play. BMCC was fouled on the ensuing in-bounds. Lady Panthers player, Denea Fleary, missed her free throw and Hostos rebounded with a chance to tie the game, but Fleary made up for her miss and cut off the half court pass to seal the narrow 41-39 win for her team.
Hostos falls to 4-2 in the CUNY Athletics Conference (CUNYAC) and, despite the loss, sits in second place with two conference games remaining before the CUNYAC Playoffs.
