SEND IT HOME BIG FELLA! A DIPSY DOO FOR TWO LAST NIGHT AT THE SWAMP!

The Hostos Caimans (8-3) were victorious Thursday night at the Swamp by a final score of 76-42 versus a game Queensborough Community College (QCC) Tigers basketball club.  A game QCC team that kept the game tied for the first ten minutes of the game.  Yet, within a moment, the momentum changed with a momentous baseline drive, elevation on three QCC players, and dunk with a foul by Mr. Charles Jackson that started the night for the Hostos Caimans!  In what can be described as wow, by evident of the sold out crowd on its feet for 5 consecutive minutes cheering Charles Jackson's play, the Caimans, began to pull away from QCC.  The Caimans used the dunk to build momentum and take an 11 point lead on defensive intensity and team play to close the half up 32-21.  Only shooting 38.7% from the field and 38.9% from the charity stripe, the Caimans held the Tigers to 32.2% shooting.

The second half was the exclamation point.  With this being the Caimans fifth game in nine days, the team flexed its muscle.  The tandem of Jackson and Brandon Stolz were too much for the Tigers to contend with as the lead quickly ballooned to over 20 points in the first 7 minutes of the second half while holding the Tigers to only 4 points in the first 10 minutes.  Stolz finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in only 20 minutes.  Yet, it was his defense on Tiger superstar Stephon Medard and limiting him to 6 points for the night was a major reason for the Caiman team success.  Jackson finished with 23 points and 5 rebounds.  10 other Caimans entered the box score and 12 played more than 10 minutes for the night.  Gary Anderson, Brian Morrison, Wendell Appleton, Jamal Lovell, and Jeremiah Brown all helped extend the Caiman lead to over 30 points with a final score of 76-42.  The Caimans finished the game shooting 45.9% from the field and 9-11 from the free throw line in the second half.  The Tigers (3-7) struggled mightily, being held to 27.9% from the field with its top two scorers, Taequaan Washington and Stephon Medard shooting a combined 6-33 from the field.   Jason Lawrence led the Tigers with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

The 8-3 Caimans stretch of games before the finals break now hits the road for back to back games this weekend against NJCAA opponents Springfield Tech and Gateway CC at Passaic Community College in New Jersey.  Tonight (Friday) the Caimans face Springfield Tech at 730pm at Passaic CC on the Patterson campus.  Then, on Saturday at noon, the Caimans will face Gateway CC.    This will be the 6th and 7th games in 11 days for the Caimans and test the true mettle of the squad.  Come support the Caimans on the road!
