The Hostos Hustle in Full Effect on Tuesday Night

The Hostos Caimans (7-3), on another rainy road game on a Tuesday night, won at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) by a score of 63-55 in Downtown Manhattan.  After a disappointing loss this past Saturday at Bronx CC, the Caimans, started the game off with a basket from returning Charles Jackson to take an early 2-0 lead.  Yet, BMCC, capitalizing from Hostos shooting 37.9% from the field took an early 20-10 lead.  Hostos fought back with a 3-point shot by Jeremiah Brown to keep Hostos within striking distance at 20-15.  Still, BMCC kept the pressure on Hostos with 4 student-athletes scoring more than 5 points and forcing 9 turnovers, pushed them to halftime with a 29-23 lead.  Brian Morrison led the Caimans with 6 points and 3 rebounds in the first half on 60% shooting from the field.

The second half was a complete reversal from the first half.  With this being the Caimans fourth game in seven days, the team put forth tremendous hustle to claw its way back.  Teamwork, defensive intensity, and running the offense were the common mantra and it showed!  The Caimans, after finally tying the game with a little less than 10 minutes remaining never looked back and outscored BMCC by 14 points in the second half (40-26).  The turning point was Brian Morrison and Charles Jackson diving for a loose ball, which created a steal and fast break down the court, in which, Hostos shared the ball and fed the cutting Jackson for the basket.  This began to propel the unit, bench, and coaching staff.  Jackson and Brown playing within the team system capitalized offensively with 30 total second half points.  Jackson finished with 20 points and Brown finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the night.  The second half free throw shooting of those two along with Gary Anderson and Brian Morrison sealed the win for the Caimans, whom now stand at 7-3 on the season.   Charles Jackson led the team with 20 points.  For BMCC, Jean-Dimitri Dolce had 18 points.

The Caimans return home for a CUNY Conference game against NJCAA Region 15 opponent Queensborough CC this Thursday at 8pm at the Swamp.
