Well, Hello…Mr. Anderson!

Hostos Caimans (10-4), led by a second half surge from Gary Anderson, helped propel the Caimans to an 80-46 road victory against Region 15 opponent Dutchess County Community College on Tuesday night.  The Caimans started the game off strong building a 7-0 lead with baskets by Charles Jackson.  Dutchess fought back with an 11-0 run of their own to pull ahead 11-7.  The Caimans remained poised and fought thru the Dutchess run to answer with a 12-0 run of their own to pull ahead 19-11 by shooting a blistering 48% from the field.  The half ended with a Caiman defensive stop and a lead of 31-25.  For the half, Charles Jackson had 13 points, Khalid Yousef with 5 points, and Brian Morrison with 7 rebounds.  Ronnell Epps led Dutchess with 10 first half points.

Much like the movie the Matrix, Gary Anderson, did his best to morph into Neo!  Playing with hounding defensive energy and keeping the Dutchess defense on its toes, Anderson was able to control the offense early with 7 points and an assist.  This helped free up the wing pressure and allowed Brandon Stolz to begin to attack the rim.  Stolz had 12 of his 14 points along 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist all in the second half as Hostos began to pull away from Dutchess.  Team defense was the key, including efforts by Bryan Silvera and Henderson Belle, whom helped to chip in with the 5 steals and 15 defensive rebounds all within the second 20 minutes that helped Hostos.  This effort saw a 6 point halftime lead balloon all the way to over 40 points with a little less than 10 minutes remaining.    With this being the Caimans seventh game in twleve days, the team put forth tremendous effort to end the first half of the season on a positive note. The Caimans now stand at 10-4 on the season.    Charles Jackson led the team with 23 points.  Anderson finished with 10 points, Belle with 6 points, and Morrison with 6 points and 12 rebounds, along with 4 assists by Jamal Lovell for the Caimans.

In news from late last week, the Caimans split games over the weekend with a win versus Springfield Tech and a loss to Gateway CC at the Passaic Community College Prostate Awareness Tournament.   The Caimans now enter the finals break and play on January 3rd for an NJCAA Region 15 road game against Rockland CC at 8pm.    They return home on January 5th for a 7pm tip off time against Dutchess Community College.  Happy New Year & let's go Caimans!
