The Caimans were tested today under challenging weather conditions as the temperature rose to over 90 degrees. However, the weather and Middlesex CC proved to be no match for the tenacious Caimans. After battling for 99 minutes, the surging Caimans scored the winning goal to defeat the Blue Colts in overtime.
 
At the 22 minute mark on a Middlesex counterattack, the Blue Colts were able to break the offside trap and beat Caiman goalkeeper Mohammed Mbaye to score the first goal of the game. The Caimans had an opportunity in the closing seconds of the half to tie it up, but the shot on goal sailed slightly left.
 
After strategizing and creating a new game plan, the Caimans were on the attack to start the second half.  At the 65 minute mark, freshman forward Cheick Niambele pressured Middlesex's sweeper, causing him to lose the ball into teammate Kunga Choephel control. In a tremendous show of skills, Choephel kicked the ball between the goalie's legs to tie the game 1-1 sending the game into overtime.
 
After a brief intermission, both teams looked resilient and recharged to strike for first blood. In the team huddle, Coach Roger Gonzalez stated, "We must protect our home field with a victory". 
 
In an impressive counterattack, Madany Toure made a great recovery and a magnificent assist to center Abdourahman Kandeh who surgically kicked the ball in the lower right post, beating Middlesex's goalkeeper for the Caiman's second win.
 
Coach Gonzalez stated, "I'm really proud of my team. We played much better in the second half, and that helped us in our comeback. We will continue to work hard as we prepare for our CUNY conference games after the Labor Day weekend".
 
The Caimans will be back in action Friday, September 4th as they face Cumberland CC at Macombs Dam Park with a 4pm kickoff.
