Box Score Bronx, NY -
On a nice 70 degree day the Caimans took the field with a sense of urgency in their eyes. It's been a couple of near misses for the Caimans as of late, but today seemed like a different day. Today was their day and opportunity to finish the season strong with just two games remaining. But it seemed as though the Caimans may have overlooked the Wave, with them striking first with a goal in the opening minutes of the game.
The Caimans seemed un-bothered though, as they seemed settled and for the remainder of the half they were on the attack. Striking back with a goal by
Benjamin Frempong on an assist by Urgyen Tashi in the 25th minute. Continuing on their assault the Caimans were ripping through the Wave's defense and struck again off a beautiful pass from Tenzin Yougyal from near midfield that got tapped by
Urgyen Tashi for his second assist to Amadou Touray. The Caimans barely had time to celebrate as the next goal just three minutes later in the 37th minute with a goal by Seydou Konate with an assist by
Cheick Niambele.
We entered the second half with the Wave trying to make a splash by being on the attack. Now the sense of urgency lay on their feet. The Caimans held them off but gave up a goal in the 63rd minute. Sensing the tide may change Coach Gonzalez urged his players to play to win, not play not to lose. You could hear him from the sideline beckoning to his players "not the middle, pass the ball to the sides, run Kunga (Choepel), pass Benjamin (Frempong)." As the game was in it's final moments
Abdelilah Boulkadi sprinted from across the field beating an opposing player and cleared the ball, securing the win for the Caimans. Way to go Caiman's, great show of poise and all out determination.
The Caimans will next be in action Friday, October 9th vs Rockland CC in Suffern, NY with a 4PM start time. We will be celebrating our Men's Soccer Sophomores with the Women's Volleyball Sophomores in a mashup of Sophomore's night next Thursday, October 15th. The Lady Caimans will play host to the Queensborough CC Tigers with a 7 PM start time.
