Caimans Suffer tough loss to No. 9 Suffolk County CC

Caimans snap undefeated streak

Bronx, NY – Monday the Caimans took on the No. 9 Suffolk County Community College Sharks. Hostos came out fighting hard in the first half, matching the Sharks with 5 shots, but Suffolk proved to be too much for the Caimans in the second half as their undefeated record came to an end.

The first shot of the game came off a throw in which sailed across the goal landing at the top of the 18 yard box at a Shark's feet, but the shot was high and the score remained 0-0.

The Caimans had their first opportunity in the 10th minute when a punt by keeper, Vanessa Ama, went over the Sharks defensive line giving forward Oumar Mbaye room to run. In a one on one opportunity with Suffolk County keeper, Kevin LaBarbera, Mbaye tried to go around but LaBarbera made a diving stop.

In the 20th minute a Suffolk County forward took on Ama and beat him, with the ball on its way into the net Hostos defender Saer Ndiaye saved it clearing it to the side to keep the game tied at 0.

After some close calls in the first half Suffolk County finally broke through in the 42nd minute when #18 Trongluong Phan got a break away which resulted in the first goal of the match.

The half ended with the Sharks leading 1-0.

The Sharks dominated the second half scoring the 2nd goal just 5 minutes in. Seven minutes later, the Sharks took a 3-0 lead after curving the ball into the far corner off of a corner kick.

The last goal of the match came in the 73rd minute as the Sharks closed the door on the Caimans making it 4-0.

With a 2-1 record in Region XV play the Caimans face off with Orange CC this Friday September 28th, 3:00 PM at Macombs Dam Park (across from Yankee Stadium) in the kickoff to the 2012 Homecoming Weekend!
