The only thing more heated than the oddly warm weather of September at Macombs Dam Park on Monday afternoon at 4:00pm was the Men's Soccer CUNYAC matchup between Hostos and the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC)! Both teams came out aggressive and competitive with fouls being called and players dribbling the ball into trap defense and double teams.
BMCC broke open the game at 8:30 with a goal by freshman Midfielder Anton Wesener from a deflection at the top right side of the box. The Caimans fought back and turned defense into offense. At 10:00,
Souleymane Sidibe fed Bryon Suazo from the left side of the box to tie the score at one.
For the rest of the game, the game looked like a battle field with the soccer ball being launched from one side to the other. The BMCC Panthers kept shooting every chance they had against Caiman keeper
Emmanuel Adesanlu who ended with 12 saves. He showed confidence in the net - running to grab loose balls and keep the ball out of Caiman territory.
As the game went into overtime and double overtime, both teams had chances to put the game away. BMCC had a few advantages on fastbreaks but could not overcome the swarming Hostos defense. The Caimans missed an opportunity when team leading goal-scorer
Byron Suazo had an opening from the left side on a break but lost his footing. Suazo still leads the team with four goals in four games.
The Caimans are now 1-2-1 on the season and travel to play at Orange County CC on Friday at 3:30pm.
