New Rochelle, N.Y. - The #10 nationally ranked Hostos women's basketball team faced off with the #6 ranked Monroe-Bronx Express as the two top-10 teams battled for the Region XV championship and a birth to the 2022 NJCAA National Women's Basketball Tournament. The Express started off hot taking a 11-2 lead to start the game but the Caimans would get back in the game with a second quarter 11-3 run sending the teams into the locker room with The Express leading 20-19 lead. 

The second half was a nip and tuck affair with Monroe-Bronx holding the lead the entire half on the way to the win by a final score of 45-39 capturing the 2022 Region XV Basketball Tournament Championship punching their ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota. 

Leading the way for the Caimans was sophomore guard Shania Lewis with 10 points and eight rebounds while freshman guard Dimon Walker also posted 10 points with five rebounds while adding two steals. Freshman guard Starr Garcia also had a good night with nine points and six rebounds. Off the bench freshman forward Aiyana Hicks netted seven points with four rebounds and three assists. 

With the loss the Caimans finish the season with a 14-5 overall record and will now wait to hear from the NJCAA selection committee for word of an at-large bid to the 2022 NJCAA National Women's Basketball Tournament in Rochester, Minnesota. The selection show will air on www.NJCAA.org on Wednesday, March 2 at 3:00pm.
