Bronx, N.Y. - The nationally ranked #2 Caimans women's basketball team opened their 2022 season at CUNYAC and borough rival Bronx Community College on Thursday night in University Heights. The Caimans took control of the game from the start going on a 20-8 run in the first quarter to set the pace for the game. But the Broncos would not go down easily and fought back to a stand still in the second quarter as the Caimans went into the locker room with a 34-23 lead at halftime. The second half was a back and forth affair but the Caimans stayed on top and closed out the game by a final score of 64-47 to take home the win. With the victory the #2 Caimans are 1-0. 

Leading the way for the Caimans was sophomore forward Aiyana Hicks who notched a double-double with a game high 21 points and 10 rebounds while also adding five blocks. Sophomore guard Savannah Williams also recorded a double-double for Hostos with 13 points and a game high 13 rebounds while adding a game high six steals. Also scoring in double figures for the Caimans was sophomore forward Lanasia Drain who netted 12 points while adding six rebounds and two blocks. 

As a team on defense Hostos held Bronx to 34.9% shooting from the floor while forcing the Broncos into 34 turnovers. 

Next up for the Caimans is the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-Off Classic at Westchester Community College on Sunday, November 6 when they will face the host Vikings at 1pm.
