Valhalla, N.Y. - The #2 Caimans women's basketball team placed four players in double figure scoring as they faced off against the host Westchester Community College Vikings in day two of the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-off Tournament. The Caimans played from behind all night as the Vikings played a great game. The first half saw a back and forth affair with multiple lead changes but eventually Westchester would go into the half up two by the score of 22-20. The second half would see the same battle between two great teams as the Vikings held a three point lead going into the fourth quarter. But the fourth quarter belonged to the Caimans who outscored the Vikings 24-16 to close the game out and go home with the 61-56 win. With the victory the Caimans are now 2-0 overall.
Leading the way for Hostos was sophomore forward Aiyana Hicks who netted a team high 18 points while also adding five rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks. Inside the paint sophomore forward Lanasia Drain added 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the floor while hauling down six rebounds. Also having a great game for the Caimans was sophomore guard/forward Savannah Williams who pumped in 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Posting a double-double for the Caimans was sophomore guard Starr Garcia who packed the stat sheet with 10 points, 11 rebounds and added six steals on the defensive end. Also making big contributions to the Caimans was sophomore guard Zaire Bailey who corralled 10 rebounds while also adding four points.
As a team on defense the Caimans held Westchester to 22.9% shooting from the floor while while forcing 31 Viking turnovers.
The Caimans will now step back into Region XV and CUNYAC play on Thursday, November 10 when they face off against Kingsborough Community College on the road at 6pm.
