Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Men's Basketball team notched their first victory of the new year defeating Bergen Community College 94-68 at the world famous Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Head Coach
Marquee Poole stated, "This was such a fun experience for our student athletes, to be able to play in this arena today and being able to secure a win against a great program like Bergen just made this a really great day for the program." With the win the Caimans are now 8-6 overall and 4-0 in CUNYAC play.
The Caimans saw five different players score in double figures led by freshman forward
Ashaunte Manuel who posted one of two Caiman double-doubles with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Also recording a double-double for the Caimans was freshman guard
Onias Outlaw who stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Also contributing for Hostos was sophomore guard
Kai Holland who knocked down three trifectas and totaled 15 points while freshman guard/forward
Jaylen Thomas was 6 of 7 from the floor to total 12 points. In the paint center
Sidi Toure pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with a team high four blocks and also six points.
As a team Hostos out rebounded Bergen CC 52-28 on the glass. Defensively the Caimans recorded 14 steals from their full court pressure and connected on 54.5% of their shots from the offensive end.
Next up for the Caimans is a home matchup in The Swamp with Rockland Community College on Saturday, January 15 at 3pm.
