Caimans Go Splashing Into Spring

Swimmers prepare for the 50M Championship Friendly
Bronx, NY--The Caimans were in their true habitat as swimmers of all skill levels gathered into pool for an afternoon of fun, music, competition and medals Tuesday, March 24th 2015 to test their abilities. 
 
Hostos' Athletics welcomed 23 participants and 40 spectators for the Spring 2015 Splash Dash intramural.  The first event turned out to be the most popular with 18 participants. In that event, the 50m Freestyle saw Raymond Romano barely edge out all competitors with a time of 33.5 seconds.  Fitzgerald Stoner was off his mark by only one tenth of a second finishing in at 33.6 seconds.  Other events held were the 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle, and a 200 Freestyle Relay.  More fun-centric events included a 100m T-Shirt Relay, 200m Noodle Relay and a Treasure Hunter contest.  Treasure Hunter was the second most popular event with 12 participants seeing who could race to the "Blue Diamond" and return it to the start in the quickest time.  With a lightning fast retrieval, Hansel Collado took home the medal with a time of 12.8 seconds. 
 
Medals were given to the champions of each competition and to the most courageous competitors.  Professor Sucre took home the most medals with five, followed by Raymond Romano with two, and a ten-place tie for third taking home one medal.  Kenneth Butler took home the "True Caiman" award, showing the most sportsmanship fearlessly participating in every event listed.  We would like to thank all those who came out to participate, spectate, or help out with the event and look forward to hosting another Splash Dash soon!
