James 'Speedy' Williams

James “Speedy” Williams is entering his fourth season on the Caiman sidelines. Coach Williams, a Bronx native and New York City Basketball legend, former pro basketball player and renowned basketball trainer has had a presence in New York City basketball for over 30 years.

Coach Williams primary responsibility on the Hostos staff is player development. Coach Williams has been responsible for the development of countless all CUNYAC and all Region XV players at Hostos. He is also personally responsible for the development of NJCAA All-Americans Jemal Smith, Nakeem Hamilton and 2020 1st team All-American Korey Williams. Also, Coach Williams has helped place dozens of former Caimans into four year colleges to continue their college careers including many on athletic scholarships.

Williams attending nearby Morris High School in the Bronx before playing collegiately at Medgar Evers College where Coach Williams would go onto average 26ppg in his senior year. After college Coach Williams would go onto play professional for over 10 years making stops playing in the Continental Basketball Association, United States Basketball League, the Harlem Globetrotters and the Harlem Wizards. Williams, after spending over 20 years sharpening his craft on the blacktops of NYC is known around the city as one of the true “Playground legends” of New York. Williams spent countless summers dominating nationally known street ball pro-am leagues such as the Entertainers Classic at Rucker Park, New York Pro City, West 4th Street, Dyckman as well as many other tournaments. Also, Coach Williams spent some time on both sides of the Hollywood cameras as he served as an advisor, and played a role in the film Above The Rim where he made his acting debut.
