Howie Harrison is entering his sixth season on the Caimans bench. Coach Harrison brings years of experience as a head coach, an assistant coach at the four-year level as well as a physical education and school administration background.
Coach Harrison has assisted Coach Poole in every phase of the program over the last six years. His main area of concentration has been practice and game plan development as well as the offensive side of the ball where Coach Harrison is responsible for implementing the Caiman offense with Coach Poole. Coach Harrison has also been very involved with day to day recruiting responsibilities helping the Caimans land many successful student athletes.
Prior to his time on the Grand Concourse Coach Harrison spent two years as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Emmanuel College located in Boston, MA. During his time at Emmanuel Coach Harrison was responsible for recruiting and development of all perimeter players. Also, Coach Harrison was very involved in the development and planning of the Emmanuel College offense. Â
Coach Harrison also spent time at the High School level as the Head Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach at Bement School in Deerfield, MA where Harrison also served as the Assistant Athletic Director. During his time patrolling the sidelines at Bement Harrison guided them to four straight winning seasons while placing many student athletes at four year colleges. While at Bement Coach Harrison also assisted coaching the Varsity Girls Softball team and the Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team.
Before his time in New England Coach Harrison served as the Physical Education Coordinator and Athletic Director at Leadership Academy Charter School in the Bronx, NY. Harrison had the exciting task of creating and building up the scholastic sport program from scratch. Harrison started many varsity programs within the New York City Charter School League including Boys and Girls Basketball, Flag Football, Track and Field and Double Dutch. During their first year of being a program the Boys Basketball team went undefeated and won the N.Y.C Charter School Basketball League Championship.
A Harlem native, Harrison attended Williston-Northampton Prep School in Massachusetts where he was a four sport star lettering in Football, Basketball, Lacrosse and Track. After his prep year Harrison would go onto to attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Sports Management. Harrison went onto to obtain his Master’s Degree in Education in 2014 from the Relay School of Education. Soon after Harrison earned his second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University in 2018 while also receiving his Advanced Certificate in School District Leadership from Canisius College that same year.
Coach Harrison currently resides in Harlem, New York and is the Supervisor of Physical Education & Health and Assistant Director of Athletics in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District in Newburgh, New York.
