Roger Collier is entering his sixth season on the bench for Hostos Community College. A main stay in New York City High School girls’ basketball for over 30 years, Coach Collier has been a major asset to the Caimans program. He has been instrumental in the recruitment efforts by the Caimans and is involved with all aspects of the program including scouting, practice planning and the implementation of offensive and defensive concepts. Coach Collier also takes pride in mentoring young athletes and helping them move onto the next level. During his time in The Swamp, Coach Collier has been a part of four CUNYAC Championships, four Region XV Championships and two National Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Besides his time spent on the Caiman bench, Coach Collier is also the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Aquinas High School, a position take he has held since 2012. Coach Collier’s tenure at Aquinas has been a successful one including winning the both the New York City and State Championship in 2017. During his time at Aquinas, Coach Collier has helped many student athletes realize their dream of playing college basketball placing over a dozen students in college programs.
Prior to his time at Aquinas High School, Coach Collier was the Varsity Assistant Coach at Blessed Sacrament High School in Yonkers during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Both years were a success as Blessed Sacrament made deep runs in the NYC CHSAA playoffs.
From 2004 to 2009 Coach Collier was the Varsity Girls Coach at Mount Saint Ursula Academy. His first season at The Mount was a great success as he guided the team to an 18-6 record and placed two of his student athletes at division institutions. Both players received full scholarships with Kendra Wilson attending Robert Morris College and Damis Awani attending Northwestern University. The 2006 season was another banner year for Coach Collier and his team as they won the New York City Championship before falling in the state championship on a last second shot.
Coach Collier has also spent many years coaching AAU basketball as well as youth and development basketball. His many stops include coaching in the YMCA/Junior Knicks Basketball Program in both Manhattan and the Bronx. Also, Collier has also spent time with Castle Athletics coaching their 14U and 15U girls’ basketball teams.
Collier, a Bronx native attended Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida before coming back home to suit up for Lehman College. Collier is also a decorated Army veteran who served overseas in Dordrecht, Netherland.
