Hostos Women's Basketball team defended their CUNYAC Championship tonightvs the Borough of Manhattan Panthers. For the 6th consecutive time in a row the Lady Caimans have won the CUNYAC Championship. The Caimans would come out right away and control of the game forcing multiple Panther turnovers that led to points for the Caimans. The Caimans would finish the 4th quarter forcing 12 panther turnovers and leading 17-7. In the second Quarter they started red hot and pressing and getting out into transition. During the 2nd quarter Sophomore Guard
Savannah Williams scored 13 points by herself. They headed into the locker room at halftime with a 43-16 lead. The second half would be more of the same as the Caimans would keep control on their way to a 71-44 victory. With the win
Hostos improves to 19-4 overall and 9-0 in
CUNYAC play.
Leading the way for
Hostos was Sophomore
Savannah Williams who posted a career high 29 points to go along with thirteen rebounds. Also coming off the bench and making an impact was freshman
Fatoumata Diaby who tallied 13 points and 5 rebounds which was a season high.As a team the Caimans forced 36 Panther turnovers while holding them to 27.4% shooting from the field. On offense
Hostos shot 39.2% from the floor while grabbing out 56 Rebounds.
Next up for the Caimans is a bye until the Final Four of the Regional Playoffs March 3 & 4th Weekend. The Caimans wiil play the winner of Nassau and Suffolk game being played on February 28th. The Caimans will be the home team during the contest.
