Bronx, N.Y. - The #10 Hostos Women's Basketball team was back in action Thursday night as they traveled to borough rival Bronx Community College for a CUNYAC showdown. The Caimans controlled the game right from the start outscoring the Broncos 20-9 in the first quarter in rout to a halftime score of 41-26 in favor of the Caimans. The second half saw the Caimans place four players in double figure scoring as they held onto the lead the entire half for a final score of 82-46. With the win Hostos is now 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the CUNYAC.
Leading the way for the Caimans was freshman guard
Starr Garcia who netted a team high 17 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds. In side the paint the combination of
Adria Powell and
Ayanna Brown were to much for the Broncos to handle as both players reached double figure scoring and Brown posting a double-double. Powell posted 15 points and 8 rebounds and Brown finished with 11 points and game high 13 rebounds. Rounding out the double figure scorers for the Caimans was sophomore guard
Daniela Salazar-Gomez who notched 13 points. Also having a great game for the Caimans was freshman guard
Savannah Williams who added nine points, six rebounds and a team high eight assists and sophomore guard
Shania Lewis who hauled down 10 rebounds.
As a team the Caimans dished out 27 assists and had 20 steals while out rebounded Bronx CC 50 to 36 on the boards.
Next up for the Caimans is a matchup with Monroe College New Rochelle on Saturday, February 5 at the Monroe Sports Complex in New Rochelle. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
