New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Caiman Men's Basketball team faced off against the #1 seed Suffolk Community College Sharks in the Region XV semifinal game. The first half was a back and forth affair which saw multiple lead changes and ties. Suffolk would go into halftime with a four point lead 32-28. But the second half saw the Caimans take control with an 8-0 run to start the half to take a four point lead. After more back and forth basketball the Caimans went on anther 14-2 run and took control of the game to take the win by a final score of 69-56.
With the win the Caimans are now 21-10 overall and will face the #2 seed and host school Monroe-Bronx in the championship game tomorrow at 2:00pm.
Leading the way for the Caimans was freshman guard
Marquise Paulin who netted a team high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman forward Ashunate Manuel posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while also rejecting three Suffolk shots. Freshman guard
Onias Outlaw also had a standout game with a 14 point and 11 rebound double-double night.
As a team the Caimans dominated in the paint outscoring Suffolk 36-8 while also scoring 21 points off Shark turnovers. The Caimans out rebound Suffolk Community College 45-23 while holding the Sharks to 32.7% shooting from the floor and forcing 19 Suffolk turnovers.
Teh Caimans now move on to the Region XV Championship game against Monroe-Bronx on Sunday, February 27 at 2:00pm. The game will be played at the Monroe Athletic Complex in downtown New, Rochelle. Fans are welcome and the game will also be live streamed on the Monroe Express athletic website.
