Box Score Valhalla, N.Y. - The Caimans traveled to Westchester Community College to take part in the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday as they faced off with Mohawk Valley Community College in day one of the tournament. The first half was a back and forth defensive battle that saw the lead exchange multiple times before the Hawks took the lead into the locker room at halftime 44-39. In the second half the Hawks would continue to control the game as their defensive effort would eventually lead them to the 88-76 victory. With the loss the Caimans are now 1-1 overall.
Leading the Caimans in scoring was sophomore guard Marquise Pauling who registered 13 points to go along with four steals and three rebounds. Freshman guard Moussa Camara got his first career start and posted 12 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the floor including two three-point makes. Off the bench freshman guard Jeffery White netted nine points with four rebounds. In the paint sophomore big man Tionne Palmer recorded six points and hauled down six rebounds.
As a team the Caimans struggled from deep only connecting on 3 of 24 three point attempts for 12.5%. Defensively the Caimans forced Mohawk Valley into 20 turnovers.
Next up for the Caimans is day two of the Johnny Jones Memorial Tip-Off Tournament where they will face the host Westchester Vikings at 3pm.
