Bronx, N.Y. - The
Hostos Men's Basketball team played host to the
LaGuardia Community College Red Hawks in a Tuesday night
CUNYAC matchup at The Swamp. The Caimans jumped out to a 20-2 lead using their full court press to cause multiple Red Hawk turnovers. But
LaGuardia would settle down and strike back cutting the lead to ten points before the Caimans went on a run at the end of the half to go into the locker room with a lead of 52-36. The second half would be a back and forth affair as
Laguardia would stage a come back using a 12-0 run with five minutes remaining to cut the Caiman lead to three. The Caimans would respond with a run of their own to take the win by a final score of 93-83. With the win the Caimans are now 4-3 overall and 3-0 in
CUNYAC action.
The Caimans would place five players in double figure scoring led by sophomore guard Marquis
Paulin who paced the Caimans with 21 points while adding six assists, five rebounds and five steals. In the paint sophomore forward
Tionne Palmer had a big night for
Hostos posting a double-double with 18 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Freshman
Jaysin Pichardo also notched a double-double for the Caimans in a play making role netting 10 points while dishing out a career high 10 assists to go along with five steals. Just missing a double-double was freshman guard
Justice Carrington who had 13 points while adding nine rebounds. Sophomore guard
Randolph Charles also had a career high for the Caimans posting 16 points along with three assists and three rebounds.
As a team the Caimans had 24 steals while dishing out 30 assists while shooting 55.4% from the floor.
Next up for the Caimans is a Tuesday night matchup on November 29 at 8pm when they welcome the Mount Saint Vincent College JV team to The Swamp.
