Garden City, N.Y. - The Caimans women's volleyball team took to the road on Tuesday to face Nassau Community College in a Region XV matchup. Out of the gate the Lions were in control take the first set by a score of 25-13. But once the Caimans got loose it was a battle as the second set was a back and forth affair that went to extra points with Hostos coming out on top 28-26 to tie the game 1-1 after two sets. The third set went Hostos way with the Caimans pulling out a 25-19 win to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth and final set proved nerve racking for Hostos as Nassau battled back from a 21-7 deficit and rattled off eight straight points before the Caimans settled down and went on a four point run of its own to capture the final set 25-17 and take home the win by a score of 3-1. With the win the Caimans are now 3-4 overall and 2-0 in Region XV play.
Leading the way for the Caimans was sophomore
Savannah Williams who led the team with team highs in both kills and digs registering 13 kills and 19 digs to go along with four service aces. Sophomore setter
Ashly Cabral had a huge night registering a team high 19 assists as she orchestrated the Caiman offense. Cabral also added five digs and three service aces to her totals. Freshman and reigning two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Nicole Rosas also had big contributions to the Caimans win with 11 kills while freshman Jasmine Garcia added five digs and three kills for Hostos.
Next up for the Caimans women's volleyball team is a trip to CUNYAC and Region XV rival Kingsborough Community College on Thursday, September 15 starting at 7pm.
