Randalls, Island, N.Y. - The Hostos Community College Men's and Women's Track & Field team returned to action this weekend in the CUNYAC Championship at Randall's Island on Saturday. Caiman Head Coach Chris Filpo stated "It is great to see the program take the next step competing in CUNYAC championship. This gives our student athletes the opportunity to experience what a championship atmosphere is like giving us an opportunity to grow and prepare for next year."

The Track & Field team built off their performance at the Osprey Open and Rider Intentional in the CUNYAC championship with multiple student athletes competing. On the women's side Fatoumata Kebe (17.56 sec), LinAngela Canela (19.66 sec) and Deneisha Noble (21.37 sec)all competed in the 100m sprint. In field events LaNique Williams will have to wait until Thursday May 12th to compete in the Shot Put which was delayed due to weather conditions. For the men Greg Frimpong and Sekou Sylla competed in the 100m sprint with a time of 14.08 seconds for Frimpong and Sylla posting a time of 14.63 seconds. Sekou Sylla also competed in the 400m run with a time of 1:07.52. Jaylen Thomas competed in the Long Jump for the Caimans posting a best of 3.94m.

"I was proud of our student athletes this spring season, they worked hard, improved and learned a lot" Filpo stated. Filpo continued, "we have built a nice foundation with a core group which we will now help improve in the off season while me and my staff look to recruit and add to the group."

Not only has Track & Field returned to the Hostos Caiman varsity sports lineup for the first time in five years but Men's and Women's Cross Country has also been added starting in Fall 22.
