Bronx, N.Y. - On Tuesday October 4 Nassau Community College traveled to The Swamp for a Region XV women's volleyball match against the Caimans. The match with playoff implications was a back and forth affair and a battle right from the start. In set one Nassau took control taking the first set by a score of 25-16. But Hostos got it's mojo back in the second set battling back from a deficit to take the second set 25-17 and then took the third set by the score of 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead going into set number four. But Nassau would not go away easy and battled back to defeat the Caimans in set four 25-23 to tie up the match a 2-2 and force a fifth set. The fifth set was some of the best volleyball action in The Swamp this season as both teams battled back and forth forcing a win by two scenario in which the Caimans came out on top 16-14 to take the hard fought battle against Nassau CC. With the win the Caimans are now 5-10 overall and are in the hunt for the Region XV playoffs.
Leading the way for the Caimans was freshman outside hitter Nicole Rosas who posted a team high 18 kills while adding 11 digs. Sophomore setter Ashley Cabral had a career night setting her career record with 25 assists while also adding six digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Savannah Williams also contributed massively to the five set win with a packed stat sheet of 10 kills, 12 digs and five service aces. Freshman outside Hitter Jasmine Garcia also added 11 digs, five kills and three assists while Sophomore blocker Camilla LeBron add three blocks and four services aces to the Caiman team effort.Â
Next up for the Caimans is a Region XV double dual meet at Nassau Community College against CUNYAC rival BMCC and Region XV foe F.I.T. on Saturday October 8 at 12pm.
