2022 CUNYAC Community College Women’s Volleyball Championship Field Set

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2022) – The tournament field for the 2022 CUNYAC Community College Women's Volleyball Championship is now set. Four times with title aspirations will tussle for the conference bragging rights on Monday (Oct. 24) at Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens. The finals, scheduled for 8 p.m., will broadcast globally on Facebook Live.
 
Spectators are permitted to attend the game and will require a ticket for entry. Tickets can be purchased (free of charge) at cunyathletics.com/tickets. Upon arrival, spectators must provide either proof of vaccination, a negative COVID test within seven days of the match, or their Cleared4 Access Pass.
 
BMCC (15-5) enters the field as the No. 1 seed after winning its first CUNYAC regular-season title since 2008. The Panthers posted an unblemished 8-0 mark against conference opposition and are currently in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XV Championship after defeating Kingsborough in the quarterfinals on Thursday night. They are scheduled to face Dutchess in the semifinals on Saturday (10/22).
 
BMCC is led by CUNYAC and Region XV Player of the Year, Josanne Lewis, alongside CUNYAC All-Star and Region XV Setter of the Year, Xheni Doci. The Panthers are under the tutelage of first year head coach and 2022 CUNYAC Coach of the Year, Nia Bell.
 
BMCC looks to capture its first CUNYAC championship since 2006.
 
Queensborough (12-7), the six-time defending tournament champions and site host, are the No. 2 seed in the field after going 7-1 in league play during the regular season. The Tigers advanced to the NJCAA Region XV semifinals with a victory over Westchester. Queensborough will take on Monroe-Bronx in the semifinals on Saturday (10/22).
 
The Tigers are led by CUNYAC All-Star and All-Region First Team performer, Rosanna Bradica. Queensborough also features CUNYAC All-Star, Lisbeth Ortiz, and All-Region Honorable Mention, Desiree Morales.
 
Kingsborough (6-11) is the No. 3 seed after finishing 3-5 against CUNYAC opponents this season while qualifying for a spot in the NJCAA Region XV Tournament. The Wave are led by CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Noarie Proverbs. The Wave entered the tournament aiming to win their first CUNYAC championship since 2012.
 
Hostos (7-15) rounds out the bracket as the No. 4 seed in the tournament after going 3-5 in conference play this season. The Caimans are led by outside hitter Savannah Williams, along with CUNYAC All-Stars Nicole Rosas and Jasmine Garcia. The Caimans are searching for their first conference title since 2014.
 
The first semifinal contest of the afternoon is scheduled for 4 p.m. between No. 1 BMCC and No. 4 Hostos. The Panthers swept the Caimans in the first meeting of the year and won the second matchup of the season in four sets.
 
The second semifinal match is slated for 6 p.m. between No. 2 Queensborough and No. 3 Kingsborough. The Tigers won the first meeting in three sets, while tanking down the Wave in four games in the second meeting of the year.
